Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Roger Williams on the Road

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team fell to Roger Williams University on the road Saturday, April 16, as the Hawks took a 25-4 decision on their home field.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Hawks dominated the opening quarter, as Roger Williams scored 12 times in the opening 15 minutes of action. Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored three times in the quarter, while Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) added three as well. The Leopards got a pair of shots off in the first, but were unable to convert as the Hawks took a 12-0 lead into the second.
  • Wentworth got on the board early in the second, as senior midfielder Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) scored her team-leading 45th goal of the year. After Roger Williams responded with a goal, senior attack Stone Carmichael (Falmouth, Maine) put one in for the Leopards on a free position attempt. A late goal by the home team gave them a 12-goal lead once again, making it a 14-2 game going into the half.
  • Roger Williams kept up the offense in the third, outscoring the Leopards 5-1 in the period. Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) and Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) both scored twice in the third, as the Hawks extended their lead to 19-3. Sophomore attack Olivia Murray (Quincy, Mass) scored for Wentworth in the third, coming off an assist by junior midfielder Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine).
  • Galan scored her second of the game and 46th of the season in the fourth, but the Hawks scored six times in the final period to close it out and take a 25-4 victory.

NOTES

  • Roger Williams outshot Wentworth 31-10, and each team picked up seven ground balls on the day.
  • The Hawks were 7-of-9 on clears, while the Leopards were 4-for-10.

THE SERIES

  • The teams had their 10th all-time matchup Saturday, with Roger Williams leading the series 10-0.

NEXT 

  • Wentworth returns to the field Tuesday, April 19, as they host Gordon College in CCC action at 4:00 p.m.
