Hockey Picked Second in ECAC Northeast Pre-Season Poll

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – One week from tonight (Nov. 7) the Wentworth hockey team opens its 20th season of varsity hockey with 20 returning players and 13 newcomers taking to the ice. Today the ECAC Northeast announced its preseason poll, with the Leopards picked to finish second behind two-time defending conference champion Curry.

The Black & Gold received two of eight first-place votes and a total of 57 points. Curry received the other six first-place votes and 62 points overall. Wentworth was picked to finish ahead of Johnson & Wales (42 points), Nichols (34), Becker (31), Salve Regina (27), Western New England (22), and Suffolk (13).

After the season-opening game against Salem State, Wentworth travels to Fitchburg State on Nov. 11-12 for the IC Federal Credit Union Shootout. The Leopards play Franklin Pierce in the opening game and will face either the host Falcons or Southern New Hampshire in the second game before opening their 14-game conference schedule at Western New England on Nov. 17

The 2010-2011 Leopards finished 14-9-4 and advanced to the ECAC title game for the seventh time in 10 seasons before falling to Curry, 2-1, in overtime.
