Hockey Doubles Up Becker for Fourth Straight Win

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. --- Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska) and Andrew Yarber (Livonia, Mich.)each scored two goals as Wentworth defeated Becker 6-3 at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts on Friday evening. The Leopards of Wentworth are now 10-4-1 for the season, with a 3-1-1 record in the ECAC Northeast. The Ice Hawks of Becker dropped to 5-9-1 and 1-4 in the conference standings.

The Leopards jumped on top of the host Ice Hawks early and often. Shade beat the goalkeeper just 44 seconds into the game with an assist to Mike Domsodi (Kirkland, Que.). Later in the first period, Yarber put Wentworth up 2-0 on a solo strike. With just over eight minutes remaining in the first, Domsodi scored on a power play goal, assisted by the Jameson brothers, Shaun and Skylur (Long Beach, Calif.) and Wentworth went into the first intermission up 3-0.

Becker stepped up their game in the second period, as goalkeeper Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded ten saves while shutting the Leopards out. The Ice Hawks were unable to capitalize on the offensive end, however, and they went into the third period still down 3-0.

The third period was a veritable offensive explosion. Becker got on the scoreboard for the first time in the night 8:22 into the frame, courtesy of an unassisted power-play goal from Nick Di Nardo (Wellington, Fla.). Wentworth would soon answer as Yarber scored off a pass from Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) to put Wentworth up 4-1. Becker would capitalize on the next power play when Korby Anderson (Owantonna, Minn.) found David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) to pull the Ice Hawks to within two with 5:24 left in the game. A minute and a half later, Shade would score his second goal of the night, assisted by Skylur Jameson and Michael Heffner (Lloydminster, Sask.) and the Leopards would go up 5-2. Becker would answer just 13 seconds later when Graham and Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) fed Anderson for the third Ice Hawk goal of the game. Shaun Jameson would close out the scoring for Wentworth, scoring an empty netter with seven seconds left in the game.

Wentworth outshot Becker 36-28. Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) had 25 saves in goal for the Leopards while Rosenthal produced a strong effort with 30 stops.

The Ice Hawks are back in action on Sunday as they face the Skyhawks of Stonehill at Thayer Arena in Warrick, R.I. in a 3:00 p.m. game.  Wentworth travels to nationally ranked Williams on Tuesday, January 17 at 4:00p.m.
