Williams Downs Hockey Team, 8-2

Williams Downs Hockey Team, 8-2

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – Williams freshman forward Craig Kitto scored two of the Ephs first three goals, including the game's first marker just 2:30 into the contest as nationally ranked Williams snapped Wentworth's four-game win streak with an 8-2 win in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The win was the 300th for Williams head coach Bill Kangas.

Kitto's first goal broke the 0-0 tie early in the first period as he found teammate Patrick Morrissey's rebound and put it past Wentworth's starting goalie freshman Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.) less than three minutes into the game.

Only a minute and a half later, Williams was able to increase their lead to two when freshman forward Peter Mistretta found the back of the net on a one timer from sophomore forward Nick Anderson's centering pass. Kitto's second goal of the night came when he brought the puck down the right side and used his backhand to beat Peck.

Wentworth was able to capitalize on the man advantage opportunity and would put a goal on the board in their favor. Leopard freshman forward Mike Domsodi (Kirkland, Que.) received a pass from teammate Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) on the hashes and put it past Eph freshman goalie Sean Dougherty to give the Leopards their only goal of the first period.

Williams closed the first period by extending their lead once more as David Jarrett and Ryan Scott set up Nick Anderson by putting him in position to fire the puck past the outstretched right leg of Peck. Anderson's goal would give the Ephs a 4-1 lead at the first intermission.

Junior forward Mark Lyons added two of the Ephs four 2nd period goals, which pushed the lead to 8-1.  The first of which came 3:30 into the period and the second came on a centering pass from senior Justin Troiani that Lyons was able to redirect over the right pad of the Leopards' second goaltender of the contest, junior Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park, Mich.)

Troiani and sophomore defenseman Paul Steinig also each scored a goal in the second period.

Junior defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) fired a slap shot right off of the face off that was won by teammate Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) at the 4:17 mark of the final period.

Peck made 16 saves in 20 minutes of work while Jarboe turned aside 19 over the final 40:00. Dougherty made 37 saves.

With the win, Williams runs its unbeaten streak to seven (5-0-2) and improves to 9-1-4 on the year. The Ephs are at Bowdoin on Friday. Wentworth falls to 10-5-1 and is at Curry on Saturday.
