Hockey Wins Fifth Straight

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Mike Domsodi's (Kirkland, Que.) goal with 7:47 left in the second period proved to be the game winner as the Wentworth hockey team held off a late Becker rally in a 3-2 win in an ECAC contest played at Matthews Arena.

The visiting Hawks got on the board first when sophomore Dan Kane (Staten Island, N.Y.) set up junior Mark Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y.) in front of the net at the 5:59 mark. The Leopards, who held a 13-5 shot advantage in the opening frame, got the equalizer when sophomore Cameron Gibson (Valencia, Calif.) put home the rebound of a freshman Curtis Heinz (Grand Rapids, Mich.) shot at 9:02. Sophomore Fred Gervasi (Mississauga, Ont.) also picked up an assist on the goal.

Wentworth did all the scoring in the second stanza, beginning with a junior Andrew Yarber (Livonia, Mich.) marker that was set up by freshman Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) at 5:35. Domsodi made it a 3-1 game when he scored on a long rush, set up by seniors Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) and Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska).

Becker pulled sophomore Shaun Millerick (Hampton, N.H.) with 2:40 left for an extra attacker, and, after a penalty on Wentworth at 18:26, the Hawks had a six-on-four advantage. The visitors would capitalize when Kane and sophomore Korby Anderson (Owantonna, Minn.) set up junior Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) for a goal with 49.7 seconds left that made it a one-goal game. The Hawks pulled Millerick again with 24 seconds left and were able to get a shot on net, but Leopard freshman Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.) made the save just before time expired.

Peck made 21 saves, while Millerick turned aside 32 shots. Wentworth held a 35-23 shot advantage.

With the win Wentworth runs its win streak to five games, improving to 15-6-1 overall and 8-2-1 in ECAC Northeast play. Becker falls to 8-13-1 (3-8-0). Both teams are in action on Saturday; Wentworth is at Suffolk, while Becker is at Johnson & Wales.
