Hockey Holds on for 5-3 Win

FOXBORO, Mass. – After taking a three-goal lead in the third period, the Wentworth hockey team staved off a late rally by Stonehill as the Leopards posted a 5-3 triumph over the Skyhawks in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Foxboro Sports Center.

The hosts jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at 6:29 on the power play as freshman forward Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) put home his own rebound past Wentworth netminder Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Junior Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass.) set up the tally with a centering feed in the slot after Christopher Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass.) carried the puck into the attacking attack zone.

Junior defenseman Reed Rushing (Seattle, Wash.) tied up the contest at 1-1 at the 9:31 mark sniping a shot into the lower left corner of the net from the top of the right faceoff circle behind Skyhawks goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass.) for his second marker of the year. Senior forward Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) and junior forward Anthony Principato (Holmdel, N.J.) were credited with assists.

In the second stanza, on the power play, freshman forward Mike Domsodi (Kirkland, Que.) gave the Leopards a 2-1 advantage with his first of two goals on the night at 7:34 of the period cleaning up a loose puck in front of the net.

Principato pushed Wentworth out in front, 3-1, just one minute and 53 seconds into the third period sneaking a shot past Tasiopoulos into the lower left corner of the net for his first goal of the season on feeds from freshman forward Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) and Jameson.

Domsodi netted the eventual game-winner at 8:25 finishing on a centering feed in the slot from teammate Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska) for his team-leading fifth tally of the season.

The Skyhawks cut the deficit in half at the 11:00 mark as Gorovitz took senior forward Patrick Greene's (Weymouth, Mass.) pass off the sideboards and skated in one-on-one against Jarboe beating the goaltender with a forehand-to-backhand deke for his fourth marker on the season. Sophomore forward Bill Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) also earned an assist on the shorthanded tally.

Borges put the Skyhawks within one at 16:23 stuffing home a rebound off of Tyler Gordon's (Franklin, Mass.) initial shot.

Wentworth shutdown Stonehill's comeback bid at 18:24 on the power play as sophomore forward Cameron Gibson (Valencia, Calif.) potted Yarber's rebound past Skyhawks backup goaltender Dominic Sawaia (Cranston, R.I.) directly in front of the net.

Jarboe turned away 22 shots to improve to 2-2-0 on the season. Tasiopoulos made 22 saves for Stonehill while Sawaia stopped four shots in a backup role.

Stonehill (2-6-0) returns to action on Saturday, December 3 when it travels to Franklin Pierce University for a Northeast-10 matchup at 7 p.m. Wentworth (3-2-1) travels to Wesleyan on Saturday, November 26 in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
