BOSTON, Mass. – Three powerplay tallies proved to be the difference for the #11 Endicott Gulls as the Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team fell to their Commonwealth Coast Conference rival 4-2 on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Just under five minutes into play, the Gulls struck on the powerplay as junior Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, N.H.) found open room in the slot to sneak in a shot that went to the top of the net. The score gave Endicott a 1-0 lead.
  • Endicott's powerplay had another opportunity to score just over three minutes after Gaulin's tally and did so when senior Zach Mazur (Lancaster, N.Y.) ripped a shot past junior Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) to give the Gulls a 2-0 advantage.
  • Wentworth responded in the second frame when sophomore Jacob Shankar (Johnstown, Ont.) snagged a loose puck from behind the net and fed freshman Nolan Lowe (Toronto, Ont.), who was uncovered in front of the goal. Lowe found nothing but twine, cutting the deficit in half in a 2-1 score.
  • Endicott answered just under ten minutes into the period when junior Cass Bowes (Sturgeon County, Alberta) fed junior Andrew Kurapov (Corvallis, Ore.) on a slick saucer pass. Kurapov's tally trickled by Oliver and brought the score to 3-1.
  • North of two minutes later, the Black & Gold responded when Nikolas Sombrowski (Fernie, B.C.) took a shot past sophomore Ryan Wilson (Shelton, Conn.) to bring the score to 3-2.
  • In a tight game, Endicott separated themselves on another score from Mazur just over twelve minutes into the final period. After the Leopards applied pressure to come back into the game, the final buzzer sounded with a 4-2 score.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Winners of the last three meetings, Endicott leads the all-time series, 16-3.
