BEVERLY, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team couldn't find the scoresheet as the Black & Gold were shutout by the Endicott Gulls 4-0 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup Saturday night. Junior Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) made a career-high 52 saves in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a defensively-sound first period, Endicott broke the ice late in the second period on the powerplay when sophomore Ryan Willett (Bayville, N.Y.) ripped a shot that got through traffic and deflected off a few bodies in front. Junior Connor Beatty (Concord, N.H.) got a piece of the puck that managed to slowly trickle past Oliver. A goal was signaled, giving the Gulls a 1-0 lead with just seven seconds left in the second period.
  • Endicott's powerplay struck again just under two minutes into the third period when junior Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, N.H.) took a shot from the slot. The puck got caught in traffic and dropped to the ice in front of junior Jackson Sterrett (Henderson, Tenn.), who had a wide-open net to put the home team ahead 2-0.
  • Midway through the third, Sterrett managed to get a shot to the net that deflected off of senior Elliott Clemmons (Rochester, N.Y.). Oliver left a rebound out front with junior Andrew Kurapov (Corvallis, Ore.) hanging around the post. Kurapov's score put the Gulls ahead 3-0.
  • Freshman Jack Ring (Guilford, Conn.) managed to get his first collegiate score shorthanded on an empty net with just over three minutes to go in the game. The score made the game 4-0, which held up as the final score.
  • Oliver's 52 saves in the loss marked a new career-high while sophomore Atticus Kelly (St. Paul, Minn.) made 33 saves in a shutout performance for the Gulls.
