HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After killing off an early penalty and going on a power play early in the contest, Wentworth grabbed a 1-0 lead when sophomore Sean Brown (Salem, N.H.) sent a breakout pass to freshman Travis Marchant (Londonderry, N.H.), who beat Salve Regina junior Anthony Del Tufo (Livingston, N.J.). The Leopards continued to apply pressure and took a 2-0 lead when freshman Ian Worthley (Saugus, Mass.) scored from sophomore Matt Smoliga (Glenville, Ill.) and freshman Nolan Lowe (Toronto, Ont.) at the 16:42 mark. Wentworth had an 8-4 shot advantage in the first period.
- Freshman Jack McGovern (Ancaster, Ont.) withstood a barrage of Seahawk shots before the visitors cut the lead to 2-1 when junior Johnny Mulera (Rockville, Md.) scored at 11:25. The Black & Gold responded with 1:58 left in the frame when Worthley netted his second of the game, coming on the power play, which was set up by classmate Nikolas Sombrowski (Fernie, B.C.) and sophomore Luke Jefferies (Kanata, Ont.).
- In the middle part of the third period, the Leopards had a pair of two-man advantages but were unable to add to their lead. At the 13:22 mark, Salve Regina pulled within a goal as freshman Walter Baumann (Gates Mills, Ohio) scored on the power play, off a rebound of a senior Mitch Walenski (Lincoln, R.I.) shot which was saved by McGovern.
- With 1:19 left, the Seahawks pulled Del Tufto for an extra attacker and just 20 seconds later, the move paid off as senior Joseph Kile (Troy, Mich.) knotted the game at 3-all. Wentworth had a pair of shot attempts in the waning moments of regulation but both went wide of the mark.
- Walinski won the opening draw of overtime and immediately put a shot on net, which was saved by McGovern. At the 1:03 mark, junior Seth Benson (Moorhead, Minn.) cleared the puck out of the zone to Calder, who beat McGovern for the game winner.
- McGovern made 32 saves for Wentworth.
