Men's Tennis Opens 2021 Campaign in Convincing Fashion

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened the 2021 season in convincing fashion as the Leopards cruised past Curry, 8-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

The Leopards swept doubles play with seniors Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) kicking things off with an 8-3 win at No. 2 over junior Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) and junior Timothy O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.). Senior Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) and junior Sam Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) picked up a 9-7 win over sophomore Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) and David Monteiro. The No. 1 doubles tandem of junior Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) and freshman Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) completed the sweep with an 8-7 (7-5) win over freshman Anthony Johnson (Boston, Mass.) and Roland Polasek.

North defeated Bell, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 to give Wentworth a 4-0 lead before Salomon clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Russo at No. 3. At No. 2, Hall was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Polasek, Maus was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over O'Brien at No. 4, and Maki bested Monteiro, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6. At No. 1, Gallegos battled with Johnson, winning the first set, 7-5, before dropping the second set, 2-6. IN the tiebreaker, Johnson picked up the Colonels' lone point of the match with an 11-9 win.

Wentworth is at Gordon on Wednesday.
