Men's Tennis Moves into First-Place Tie after Doubling Up Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Senior Jarrett North's (Roanoke, Virgina) win at No. 5 singles completed a comeback for the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team as the Leopards clinched a Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament berth and moved into a first-place tie in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 6-3 win over Gordon on Saturday afternoon.

The Leopards started out the match with a 1-0 lead, thanks to the Fighting Scots defaulting at No. 3 doubles. However, it was the only point the Black & Gold would get in doubles. At No. 2, North and classmate Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) were defeated, 6-8, while, at No. 1, freshman Daniel Gallegos (Monterey, Mexico) and junior Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) fell, 5-8.

Wentworth evened the match at 2-all when Gordon defaulted No. 6 singles and took a 3-2 lead after Hall won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4. Salomon pushed the lead to 4-2 after his 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3. The Fighting Scots got a point back (4-3) when Gallegos was defeated in three sets, 7-5, 6-7 (1-7), 4-6. North cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5, giving the Black & Gold the crucial league win. Senior Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) added to the Leopard lead with a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 4.

With the win the Leopards improve to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in CCC Pod B play. Wentworth is tied with Endicott for first place. The two schools meet in a non-conference match on Wednesday and will meet Saturday in a league match to determine the number one seed within the pos for the upcoming CCC Tournament.
