Men's Tennis Edges Endicott; Clinches Top Seed in CCC Pod B

BIGHTON, Mass. – Senior Sam Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) picked up a straight set win at No. 6 singles, snapping a 4-all tie and lifting the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. With the win the Leopards (6-3, 4-1 CCC) clinch the number one seed in Pod B and will host the number two seed in Pod B, Gordon, in the conference semifinals on Thursday (conference release).

This marked the third time this season the Leopards and the Gulls have squared off and each has been decided by a 5-4 score. Today's match was no different than the previous two where Wentworth trailed, 2-1, after doubles play. Wentworth led, 1-0 after senior Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) and senior Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 3. Freshman Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and junior Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) were defeated at No.1, 8-5, while Endicott took an 8-6 win at No. 2 with seniors Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) suffering the loss.

Salomon evened the match at 2-all with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3, however, Hall was edged at No. 2, 6-4, 7-5, giving the Gulls a 3-2 lead. Maus followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4, once again tying the match (3-3). North gave the hosts a 4-3 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5, just before Gallegos was edged in a close match, 3-6, 6-3, 2-6. Ferro recorded his second match-clinching win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 (watch here)
