Men's Tennis Edges Gordon in Pivotal CCC Match

WENHAM, Mass. – For the second match in a row, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team and Gordon battled until the last match to finish. While the Fighting Scots won, 5-4, on Wednesday, junior Sam Ferro's (Whitman, Mass.) three-set win at No. 6 singles was the difference as the Leopards took the Commonwealth Coast Conference match, 5-4.

Gordon held a 2-1 lead after doubles play with seniors Tyler Hall Framingham, Mass.) and Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) combining at No. 2 to take an 8-4 win and provide Wentworth with its lone point of the flight. Senior Taymour Mansi (Alexandria, Egypt) and senior Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) fell at No. 3, while freshman Daniel Gallegos (Monterey, Mexico) and junior Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) lost at No. 1, 8-5.

Hall and Salomon gave the Black & Gold a 3-2 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Hall won, 6-2, 6-2, while Salomon was a 6-2, 7-5 winner. Gallegos battled at No. 1, however, was defeated, 2-6, 6-7 (6-8) which tied the match 3-all. Maus used a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 to bring Wentworth within a point of winning the match but Gordon picked up a win at No. 5 as Maki fell, 1-6, 2-6, to tie the match at 4-all.

Ferro dropped the first set, 1-6, before bounding back to force a deciding set with a 6-3 win in the second set. In the third set, he won, 6-4, giving the Leopards a 5-4 win.

Wentworth (2-1, 2-0 CCC) hosts Endicott on Thursday.
