HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards found themselves in an early hole, as the Lions jumped out to a 7-0 lead. A layup by sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.), who finished with 10 points and give rebounds, got Wentworth on the board. Eastern Nazarene eventually pushed the lead to as much as 13, and ended the opening quarter with an 18-6 lead.
  • Wentworth looked to cut into the deficit in the second quarter, and got started with a layup from David and a three pointer from senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) to pull within seven points. After the Lions extended the lead back to 13, the home team answered with four points from freshman forward Maddie Foster (Lewiston, Maine), who had a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds on the night, picking up her first career double-double in her second collegiate game. The Leopards ended the second quarter by scoring nine unanswered points, including five by Foster, to cut the Eastern Nazarene lead to 26-22 at the half.
  • A three pointer by Foster at the start of the second half got Wentworth within a point, and another shot from beyond the arc by Kelley tied the game at 30 with four minutes gone by in the third. After the Lions' Sophia Torres, who had 16 points on the night, put the visitors back in front with a layup, freshman guard Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) gave the Leopards their first lead of the night with another three. The teams traded points throughout the rest of the quarter, with Wentworth holding a slim 40-39 advantage heading into the final period.
  • After hanging in for three quarters, the Leopards were unable to keep up in the fourth. The Lions' Alondra Jiminez, who led all scorers with 23 points, went 5-for-7 from the field in the final quarter, scoring 12 points and helping Eastern Nazarene put the game out of reach. The visitors outscored Wentworth 27-3 in the fourth, coming away with a 66-43 victory.
