INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first few minutes of the game, but Roger Williams got a pair of baskets from Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) to take a 4-0 lead until freshman forward Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) cut the deficit to two following a layup. Another basket from Amoddio with a little over a minute remaining in the first got Wentworth within two points at 6-4, which was answered by a late layup from the Hawks' Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) to give the home team an 8-4 lead after one.
  • The Hawks were able to get their offense going in the second quarter, as a jumper from Galligan and a three pointer from Sam Mancinelli (Peabody, Mass.) opened up a seven point lead, with the Leopards getting a basket from senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) in between. An 11-0 run for Roger Williams in the middle of the quarter opened it up, as the home team gained a 21-6 lead with three minutes to go in the second. After a layup from junior guard Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) broke the drought for Wentworth, the Hawks came back with another eight unanswered to close out the half, including four from Galligan, who led all scorers with 13 points on the day and gave Roger Williams a 28-8 lead at the half.
  • The Leopards got another basket from Kelley in the opening seconds of the third, but again the Hawks answered, putting in another seven straight before Kelley added a layup at the two-minute mark of the quarter. The teams traded a pair of baskets midway through the third and Roger Williams held their 23 point lead until freshman forward Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) got the first of her team-high 11 points with a basket with just over four minutes left. She added another basket a minute later, but the Hawks were still able to score the last five points of the quarter to hold a 28 point advantage going into the fourth.
  • The home team build their lead up to as many as 33 points early in the final period, but a pair of free throws from Kelley and a basket from sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) trimmed the lead down. With four minutes remaining, Foster scored seven consecutive points in the best offensive period of the day for the Leopards, who scored 15 points in the quarter. However, the Hawks were able to close things out and pick up a 59-35 victory to maintain their undefeated record.
