INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After falling behind in the opening minutes, Curry took the lead on a three pointer from Lily Gray (Brooksville, Maine), who led the Colonels with 15 points total. The home team built their lead up to six points in the first following another shot from beyond the arc, this one coming from Jamie Satterfield (Eddington, Maine). Down by seven with two minutes to go in the opening quarter, sophomore forward Mary Kate Gould (Medway, Mass.) converted an and-one, hitting the ensuing free throw to narrow the Curry lead to four. Classmate Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) then made a jumper in the closing seconds, as the Leopards scored the final five points of the period to bring it two a two point game at 12-10 going into the second.
  • Junior guard Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) hit back-to-back jump shots in the opening minutes of the second quarter, giving Wentworth a narrow lead. Both teams then went minutes without scoring until the Colonels started to connect. Curry scored six unanswered points, including four from Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) to take a 19-14 lead just past the halfway point of the period. Freshman guard Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) came back with a three pointer for the Leopards, but Satterfield responded with her own three. Gray then followed with her own long ball in the final minute, as the Colonels took a 25-17 lead into halftime.
  • Satterfield and Gray hit another pair of threes to start off the third, but freshman forward Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine), the game's leading scorer with 18 points, came back with a basket for Wentworth. However, that was the only score for the Leopards throughout much of the quarter, as Curry opened the half on a 10-2 run. A pair of layups from Foster and classmate Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) endaed the skid, but the Leopards still trailed by 14. Foster then got the Leopards back in the game, scoring six straight points to close the gap to single digits with two minutes left in the period. After a pair of free throws from Carroll, Foster added another basket in the closing moments to bring the score to a 41-35 deficit going into the fourth. Wentworth scored the final nine points of the third, seven coming from Foster.
  • The Leopards started off strong in the fourth, as a layup from Amoddio and three pointer from David brought it to a two point game with seven minutes remaining. With Curry holding a four point advantage with just over two minutes left, Carroll hit a shot from beyond the arc to bring it to a one point game. David followed that up with a jumper to give Wentworth its first lead since the early second quarter, but Smith came right back seconds later with a three for the Colonels. After being fouled with under a minute to go, junior guard Francesca Farrell (Stoneham, Mass.) connected on a pair of free throws to tie the game and send it to overtime.
  • Foster gave the Leopard the lead early in the overtime period, but Gray then put the Colonels ahead with a three pointer. David then put in a basket for Wentworth, followed by a three pointer from Amoddio to make it a four point lead for the Leopards at 56-52. After a made free throw from Amoddio made it a five point game, Gray again came back with a long distance shot, cutting the Wentworth lead to two points. However, the Leopards were able to make their free throws in the final minute, picking up a 59-55 victory after trailing by 16 points in the second half.
