HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Leopards took an early lead following an and-one conversion by junior guard Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska), putting the home team up 5-3. A 7-0 run by the Lyons helped them jump in front by five points, but a three pointer by senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) cut into the deficit as Wentworth ended the first quarter trailing 12-11.
- A jumper and a pair of made free throws by Kelley put the Leopards in front to start off the second, and after Mount Holyoke tied the score at 16, the senior drained another three pointer to get the lead right back for Wentworth. The home team was able to maintain their slim lead, taking a 21-19 advantage into halftime.
- The Lyons came out with six straight points to start the third quarter, with Mount Holyoke's Annika Johnson contributing with two baskets to help the visitors pull ahead. Wentworth again came back to tie it midway through the third following a jumper by Busbey and a layup by sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.). The Lyons went right back ahead though, scoring another six unanswered points to take the lead and went into the final period ahead 31-27.
- Another 6-0 run for Mount Holyoke to start off the fourth gave them a double digit lead that they held at the midway point of the fourth. Busbey and freshman guard Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) made back-to-back baskets to get the Leopards within six, but the Lyons shut Wentworth out the rest of the way and picked up a 40-31 win in their first game of the season.
