INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Fighting Scots started hot right out of the gate, scoring 13 of the first 15 points, including six from Madison Wynbeek (North Haledon, N.J.), who had 17 on the day. Four straight points from sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) got the Leopards within seven, but Gordon came back with 10 straight to extend their lead. Wentworth, however, scored the final six points of the quarter, as sophomore Mary Kate Gould (Medway, Mass.) hit a pair or jumpers to end the first quarter at 23-12 in favor of Gordon.
  • Ami Rivera (Concord, N.H.), the game's leading scorer with 21 points, scored the first seven points for the visitors in the second quarter, as the Scots pushed their lead to 16 points. Minutes later, with Gordon taking a 22-point lead following a three from Rivera, senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) hit one from beyond the arc, followed by a layup from junior guard Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska). A basket in the closing moments of the half for Gordon gave them a 40-21 advantage at the break.
  • The Leopards started the third on a 7-2 run, with David scoring all seven points over a three-minute span. Freshman forward Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) followed with a three pointer as Wentworth cut their deficit to 13 with six minutes remaining in the third. After David hit another three to pull the Leopards closer, Wynbeek came back with six straight points for Gordon. Freshman guard Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) then scored four straight of her own, but the Scots answered with another six straight to close out the quarter and take a 58-38 lead into the final period.
  • Wentworth couldn't get going offensively in the fourth, as the visitors went on a 9-2 run to start the quarter. After Gould put in another jumper for the Leopards, Gordon didn't allow another point, scoring the final five points of the game and going on to win 72-42.
