INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Freshman forward Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) put in a pair of layups in the opening minutes, but the Leopards still trailed by one until classmate Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) made a field goal to give Wentworth a one point lead. After Foster made a pair of free throws, Nichols scored four straight to take the lead with four minutes remaining in the quarter. After the Leopards took a two point lead, Nichols' Summer Klein, who led all scorers with 28 points on the night, drained a three to put the visitors ahead once again. Samantha Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) hit a three of her own to put the Leopards back in front, and after a last second shot by the Bison, they took a 20-19 lead into the second quarter.
  • After Foster scored two of her team-high 22 points to start off the second, Nichols scored eight unanswered points to take a 28-21 lead. They eventually stretched their lead to 10, followed by two field goals from Foster to pull Wentworth within six. Nichols answered with a 7-0 run, but the Leopards then ran off 14 straight points, including five from senior guard Kayla Kelley (Boston, Mass.) and four from sophomore guard Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.). The run tied the game at 40, and following a late three, Nichols held a 43-40 advantage going into the half.
  • Nichols' Leandra Ortiz hit a trio of three pointers to start off the third, which helped the Bison take a double digit lead once again. The visitors went up by as many as 13, but Wentworth came back once again, as a late three from David pulled the Leopards within seven points heading to the fourth quarter.
  • Wentworth couldn't get the offense going to start out the final period, as Nichols scored the first 11 points of the fourth to pull away for good. Despite a pair of late baskets from Kelley and David, the Leopards couldn't match the Bison to cut into the lead, falling by a final of 86-62.
