Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – A hat trick in opening 1:23 by junior Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) propelled the Wentworth Women's lacrosse team to a 19-6 victory over Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wentworth jumped out to an early lead as Galan recorded a hat trick in just 1:23 into the contest, including an up-goal on the third goal.
  • Sam Ahaesy got Nichols on the board less than one minute later.
  • Freshman Olivia Murray (Quincy, Mass.) tallied a down goal with 21:25 remaining in the half but that was quickly traded out by an up-goal from Elizabeth Luster which made the score 4-2.
  • The Leopards recorded the next eight goals to open up a 12-2 lead. Galan, sophomore Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine), junior Bella MacMahon (North Yarmouth, Maine), and graduate student Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I.) found cage on the streak.
  • McKenna Gernander tallied a goal in the final minute to get the scoring back in Nichols' favor. Mackenzie Doran opened up the second half with a goal to go back-to-back for the Bison.
  • Wentworth would go on another scoring run that lasted just under 10 minutes with goals coming from freshman Jenna Viglione (Burlington, Mass.), Galan, and Murray.
  • Doran and Gernander tallied a pair of goals before Hamblett tallied a pair of her own to give the Leopards a 19-6 lead and victory.

THE SERIES

  • This is the eighth meeting all-time between the Bison and Leopards. The Bison now lead the all-time series 5-3.

  • Wentworth returns home for a contest CCC contest on Thursday night. They host the Hawks of Roger Williams University.
