Galan, Lauersen Earn All-CCC Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – A pair of Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse student-athletes were named to the 2021 Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Conference teams as the league announced its major award winners and all-conference teams on Thursday morning. Junior midfielder Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) was named to the second team while classmate Allie Lauersen (York, Maine) was named to the third team. The Leopards were also the recipients of the team sportsmanship award.

Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was conducted by the nine CCC head women's lacrosse coaches following the conclusion of the regular season.

Galan earns her second straight postseason honor from the CCC, having been the first player in Leopard women's lacrosse history to earn league rookie of the year honors in 2019. This season, she led the Black & Gold in goals (31), points (37), draw controls (35), and caused turnovers (13). She had eight goals and added an assist and a career-best 10 draw controls in a 24-20 loss to Gordon and followed that up the next game, a 19-6 win over Nichols, with seven goals and an assist with three of her goals coming in the opening 83 seconds. The Gordon game also saw her become the fifth player in program history to eclipse the 100-point plateau. In 27 career contests, Galan has scored 89 goals, and dished out 25 assists for 114 points while also winning 114 draw controls and causing 37 turnovers. In the program record books she ranks fourth in goals, assists, points, and draw controls and ninth in caused turnovers.

Lauersen was a solid contributor on the defensive side of the field all season long. She led the Leopards in ground balls (24) and was second in both draw controls (23) and caused turnovers (11). She set a career high when she scooped up eight ground balls against Western New England and had four caused turnovers in a season-opening win over Curry. In 27 career games Lauersen is first in program history in ground balls per game (3.67) and caused turnovers per game (2.00), while she ranks sixth in caused turnovers.
