Men's Volleyball Rolls Past Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Sean Mullen (Longwood, Fla.) led with 11 kills and five service aces while hitting .471, as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept Mount Ida in three sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-17) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Thursday night at Mount Ida.

Fifteenth-ranked Wentworth improves to 20-6 (10-3 GNAC) while the Mustangs fall to 5-20 (0-12 GNAC).

The Black and Gold scored seven straight to go up 8-1 in the beginning of the match. Senior Sean Donahue (Lincoln, R.I.) picked up a kill and a block assist in the opening set to help lift the Leopards to a first set victory.

Wentworth opened the second set with six straight points, including a pair of kills from Mullen. The freshman outside hitter had three service aces in the set, and freshman Collin Sabin (Walworth, N.Y.) ended the set with a kill.

Sabin and Mullen picked up another four kills in the final set. A 7-2 run helped lift the Leopards to an 18-9 lead and eventually ran away with the set 25-17.

Sophomore Mike Hansen (Rochester, N.Y.) had five kills and picked up six blocks. The Black and Gold hit .439 as a team.

Juniors James Ames (West Hartford, Conn.) and Dennis Miranda (Havana, Cuba) each led the Mustangs with five kills.

Wentworth finishes up the regular season at conference foe Rivier Saturday afternoon. Mount Ida wraps up the 2015 campaign Saturday afternoon with a home tri-match against Johnson & Wales and Emannuel.
