Carroll's Marker Lifts Women's Soccer to First Win

Henniker, N.H – Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer freshman Kristen Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) would net her first collegiate goal lifting the visiting Leopards past the New England College Pilgrims 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

The win is the first of the season for the Leopards who improve to 1-2 overall.  The loss is the second straight for the Pilgrims who fall to 1-3 on the season.

The two teams would battle through the opening 24 minutes scoreless before Carroll would fight her way through a Pilgrim defender and earn a one-on-one with NEC keeper Tricia Sardagnola (Shrewsbury, Mass.).  Carroll would beat Sardagnola firing a shot that would sail just wide of Sardagnola and in.

NEC's best scoring chance of the game came in the second half of play as senior forward Kristen Walker (Franklin, Mass.) would have an open look at the net but her shot would  go just wide.

Wentworth would continue to bring the offensive pressure late in the game as the Leopards would have two shots that would ricochet off the crossbar and another shot off the post.

Wentworth finished the game with the 10-3 advantage in shots on goal and the 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Wentworth's Miranda Stuckey (Lafayette, Ind.) and Nicole Leahey (Warwick, R.I.) split time in net as Stuckey would record one save and Leahey would stop two Pilgrim shots.  NEC's Sardagnola closed out the game with nine saves.

NEC returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they host non-conference opponent Albertus Magnus College. Wentworth will hit the field on Wednesday, Sept. 11 when they host non-conference foe Emmanuel College
