BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Lily Carlson (New Braintree, Mass.) netted the game-tying goal with 14:58 remaining as the Wentworth Institute of technology women's soccer team played to a 1-all draw with Fitchburg State on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth applied pressure early with junior Maria Selman (Santo Domingo, P.R.) putting a shot on net just 40 seconds into the contest. However, Fitchburg State capitalized on its first attempt of the game, coming at 3:21. Sophomore Adrianna Westcott (Sayerville, N.J.) sent a pass from the lower right side to junior Kendra Peretzman (Randolph, Mass.). Peretzman beat freshman Claire Reif (Winter Springs, Fla.) to the far post.
  • The Leopards applied pressure, putting three shots on goal in a nearly 13-minute span but senior Skyla Vaudo (Burlington, Mass.) came up with three saves. Late in the first half, Wentworth had a great scoring opportunity as Selman took a shot that was blocked by the Falcon defense. On the rebound, freshman Bryce Bateman (Henderson, Nev.) put the shot just wide of the mark. Freshman Brianna Reid (Bridgewater, Mass.) had her attempt go wide of the mark just before the half ended.
  • Wentworth continued to apply pressure to start the second half, putting three shots on net in a five-minute span and, in the 57th minute, Bateman took a shot that hit the far post. In the 60th minute, freshman Anja Rand (Montpelier, Vt.) nearly tied the game but Vaudo make a diving stop in front.
  • Carlson notched her second marker of the season when she took a pass from the left side from junior Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) and fired a shot across the box to the lower right corner. Both teams had chances to take the lead late in the game, however, the contest ended in a stalemate.
  • The Leopards held a 30-7 shot advantage and had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Reif made three saves for the Black & Gold.
