BOSTON, Mass. – An early strike by junior Grace Jewett (Millis, Mass.) made the difference for the Endicott Gulls women's soccer team (9-3-1, 3-0-1 CCC) as the Wentworth Institute of Technology's (2-7-1, 0-4-0 CCC) Commonwealth Coast Conference foe grabbed a 2-0 decision over the Leopards Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Just 1:19 into the first half, junior Grace Jewett (Millis, Mass.) capitalized on a turnover out front, putting the ball behind freshman Claire Reif (Winter Springs, Fla.) and placing the Gulls ahead 1-0 early.
  • Wentworth nearly knotted the score at the 21:39 mark as a far shot by senior Lauren Bradley (Lumberton, N.J.) just missed the head of freshman Lily Carlson (New Braintree, Mass.), out front, with the shot being stopped altogether by junior Rosalina Caliri (East Greenwich, R.I.).
  • Endicott continued to carry the momentum throughout the half, with the Gulls nicking two shots on goal within a 1:17 span in the 26th and 27th minutes, respectively, with both being turned away by Reif. The Gulls outpaced the Leopards and held a 14-1 shots advantage at the half.
  • The Gulls doubled their lead 7:19 into the second half as a corner kick by freshman Lily Miller (Warwick, R.I.) led to a rebound chance out front, with freshman Callie Neils (Brentwood, N.H.) heading the opportunity into the goal for a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Gulls held onto their 2-0 lead, with Caliri stopping the Leopards only threat. Reif made three saves in goal before freshman Shyla Kulesza (Grafton, Mass.) made two stops in relief in the setback.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Entering today, the last two decisions between the two teams had been decided by one goal, with the Leopards edging the Gulls 3-2 just a season ago.

NEXT UP:

  • Wentworth continues their conference slate on Tuesday at UNE.
