LAKELAND, Florida – Junior Alex Wong combined to go 6-for-9 with a double, three triples, and five runs batted in as the Wentworth baseball team upped its win streak to three with a sweep of SUNYIT. The Leopards took the first game, 10-6, and completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

The opener saw the Wildcats score three times in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fourth the Leopards cut into the lead by scoring two runs and took the lead an inning later with a pair of runs, including when Wong doubled home freshman Jake Mailman (Medway, Mass.) to put the Black & Gold ahead, 4-3.

Wentworth took advantage of a SUNYIT error in the top of the sixth inning to break the game open with a six-run inning. Despite the Wildcats plating a pair in the sixth and a single run in the seventh, the Leopards held on for the 10-6 win.

Wong was 3-for-5 with three RBI, while freshman Scott Ouellette (Lewiston, Maine) was a perfect 3-for-3. Senior Conner Flisnik (Marcy, N.Y.) added a pair of hits in the win and sophomore Paul Dassau (Franklin, Mass.) drove in four runs. Senior Kyle Cruz (Burlington, Conn.) improved to 2-0, allowing five runs on 11 hits over six innings of work.

SUNYIT opened the second game with a pair of runs in its first at bat and clung to a 2-0 lead before the Leopards cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth and took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning when Wong's triple scored Dassau, sophomore Jon Spitz (Hanover, Mass.) providing an RBI single to score Wong, and Spitz eventually coming around to score on an error.

Wentworth upped its lead to 6-2 in the sixth, thanks to Wong's second triple of the game and a Wong steal of home on a double steal play. The Wildcats scored a pair of unearned runs in the seventh but would leave the tying runs on base as freshman Justin Voytek (New Milford, Conn.) got a flyout to end the game.

Wong and Spitz had two hits apiece with Wong also adding a pair of RBI. Sophomore Dakota Baird (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) also recorded two hits in the win. Senior Nick Colanto (Beverly, Mass.) improved to 2-0, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out six batters. Voytek notched his first collegiate save after allowing zero earned runs over the final 1.1 innings of work.

At 6-3, the Leopards face RIT at South Florida Community College on Friday.
