Flisnik Becomes Baseball Program's All-Time Hit Leader

DUDLEY, Mass. – Wentworth senior Connor Flisnik (Marcy, N.Y.) became the Leopards' career hit leader and Nichols' first-year Evan Thompson (Longmeadow, Mass.) batted .800 as the teams split a Commonwealth Coast Conference baseball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Nichols (2-13, 1-7 CCC) took game one by a 6-3 score while the Leopards (13-9, 5-1 CCC) emerged with a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

Flisnik connected on his 153rd career hit as he sent the ball to left center in the third inning of the nightcap, breaking the mark of 152 set by Jake McManus '11, and finished the day with three hits giving him 154 for his career.

Junior Alex Wong (Lewiston, Maine) smacked a double on the first pitch of the day to setup an RBI single by Flisnik who moved into a tie for first place, at the time, on the career hit leader board. Wentworth scored another run in the top of the third inning on a Bison miscue.

Nichols would plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to bring the game even on a 2-RBI single by sophomore Richie Burke (Newburyport, Mass). After a scoreless fourth, the Bison struck again in the fifth. Sophomore Nick Shaw (Plymouth, Mass.) stole home to put the hosts ahead 3-0 and a run producing single by senior Dylan Courtney (Ware, Mass.) put Nichols in front 4-0.

Wentworth grabbed a run back in the top of the sixth on an infield miscue by the Bison.

The hosts then put the game away on a bunt by junior Kyle Russell (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and a single through the left side by Shaw.

Shaw would bat 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as Wentworth rookie Joe Hulme (Tewksbury, Mass.) batted a perfect 3-for-3 in the opening game as Wong went 2-for-3 and crossed home plate twice.

Sophomore Tyler Shute (Mashpee, Mass.) picked up his first win of the year on the mound for the Bison as he went the distance allowing one earned run on eight hits and striking out seven Leopards. Senior Kyle Cruz (Burlington, Conn.) shouldered the loss surrendering four runs on six hits over five innings while setting down four Bison via the strikeout. Senior Nick Colanto (Beverly, Mass.) tossed an inning of relief.

In the second contest of the day, Wentworth jumped on the scoreboard as freshman Jake Mailman (Medway, Mass.) delivered a 2-RBI single up the middle in the top of the first. Nichols would slice into the Leopards' lead in the bottom of the second following a single by Russell.

Senior Joe Meucci (West Hartford, Conn.) connected for a base hit to help another pair of Wentworth runners to touch home plate in the top of the third. Flisnik tripled in a run in the fourth inning as senior Kevin McKenzie (Arlington, Mass.) singled to allow the final Leopards run to score.

Nichols began to rally with two runs in the sixth. Thompson singled in one tally as a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore Shayne McNally (Leominster, Mass.) allowed the final base runner of the day to score.

Thompson was a perfect 3-for-3 as Flisnik and Meucci each batted 2-for-3.

Senior Adam Farrar (Newport, Vt.) surrendered one earned run on six hits and fanned five over six innings. Rookie Justin Voytek (New Milford, Conn.) picked up his second save of the season for the Leopards as he struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Senior Andrew Letellier (Saco, Maine) suffers the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in four innings. First-year Colin Geagan (Watertown, Mass.) tossed three in relief for the hosts.

Nichols hosts Lasell on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and Wentworth entertains Salve Regina tomorrow in a CCC doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
