FITCHBURG, Mass. – Senior Shaun Jameson's (Long Beach, Calif.) goal with 36 seconds left in regulation knotted the game at 2-all as the Wentworth Institute of Technology and Fitchburg State opened their seasons with a tie opening round action of the 2012 IC Credit Union Shootout this evening.

After a scoreless first period of play, Wentworth got on the board first early in the second period as junior Fred Gervasi (Mississauga, Ont.) connected off a pass from Devin Cobbold (Ottawa, Ont.) for his first goal of the season at the 4:11 mark.

Fitchburg State responded in the third frame, using back-to-back goals from seniors Justin Quinn (Braintree, Mass.) and Joseph Caveney (Fitchburg, Mass.). Quinn netted the equalizer for the Falcons at the 6:28 mark, taking feeds from Trevor Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Max Lorenzen (Leesburg, Va.) on the play. Caveney followed suit later in the period, finding the back of the net at the 13:06 mark with helpers from Kevin Holmes (Newburyport, Mass.) and Lawler. Both of the Falcons' goals came on the power play.

The Leopards pulled sophomore netminder Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.) with 1:15 left in regulation, in favor of an extra attacker and it paid off as senior Reed Rushing (Seattle, Wash.) fed Jameson for the game-tying goal.

Jameson's marker forced a five minute overtime period between both teams, however Fitchburg State's two attempts on target in the extra frame could not land to keep the game at a 2-2 standstill. For the contest, Wentworth held a 31-22 advantage in shots, while Fitchburg State notched seven power-plays on the evening.

In net, junior Randy Wolcott (East Haven, Conn.) put forth 29-save effort for the Falcons, while Peck notched 20 stops for the visitors. Wentworth held a 31-22 shot advantage.

Fitchburg State (0-0-1) will be in action tomorrow afternoon as it battles Becker at 4 p.m. Wentworth (0-0-1) will face Worcester State at 1 p.m.
