Hockey Edged by Williams, 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Paul Steinig (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the game and freshman Noah Klag (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) stopped all 15 shots he faced as the No. 10/13 Williams College men's ice hockey team won its fourth straight game with a 1-0 win over Wentworth.

The host Leopards, who saw their three-game win streak snapped, were able to kill off two early penalties in the opening period as neither team found the back of the net. Both teams had five shots on goal with three of the Ephs shots coming on those two extra-man advantages.

Williams would outshoot Wentworth by a 7-5 margin in the second period and would dodge a bullet late when the Ephs were down two men. The Leopards were unable to get a shot on goal off during the two power plays.

Steinig split the Leopard defense and fired a shot from just outside the top of the face-off circles that was initially saved by Leopard sophomore Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.). The rebound came right to Steinig's stick and he put the visitors up 1-0 at 11:51.

The Ephs had a multitude of chances to increase their lead, however Peck made several key stops down the stretch. With 1:04 left, he was pulled for an extra attacker. The Leopards were able to put one shot on net before eventually being whistled for icing with 12 seconds left. Wentworth would win the ensuing face-off in its own zone but could not get a shot off in the final seconds. Williams held a 14-5 shot advantage in the third period.

Klag made five saves in each peiord to earn his first collegiate shutout while Peck turned aside 25 shots, including 13 in the final period. Williams held a 26-15 shot advantage for the game, with nine shots coming on four extra-man advantages. The Leopards were held without a shot on goal in three extra-man advantages.

With the win Williams improves to 12-4-2 and hosts Trinity in NESCAC action on Friday night. Wentworth falls to 10-8-1 and is at Nichols for an ECAC Northeast contest on Wednesday evening.
