Hockey Rolls Past Johnson & Wales

Hockey Rolls Past Johnson & Wales

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Five different players scored goals while sophomore Curtis Heinz (Grand Rapids, Mich.) had a pair of assists as the Wentworth hockey team downed Johnson & Wales, 5-1, in an ECAC Northeast contest played at Lynch Arena.

Wentworth got on the board early in the first when senior Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) put in a pass from Heinz just 3:25 into the contest to put the Leopards up 1-0.  Wentworth held a 20-8 lead in shots on goal for the period.

The visitors broke the game open in the early part of the second period when three goals in less than three minutes made the score 4-0.  Freshman Mike Cox (Marlborough, Mass.) scored what would later prove to be the game winning goal just 1:53 into the period for Wentworth, while junior Lawton McCracken (Colbourne, Ont.) and sophomore Beau Burgau (New Ulm, Minn.) scored at 2:52 and 4:35, respectively.

Johnson & Wales got onto the board at the 4:53 mark of the third period when senior Jason Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, Mass.) put in a pass from freshman Josh Obregon (Omaha, Neb.) to make the score 4-1.  It would not be enough, however as freshman Devin Cobbold (Ottawa, Ont.) added a goal late en route to the 5-1 victory.  Wentworth held a 51-23 advantage in shots on goal for the contest.

Sophomore Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.) had 22 saves in the victory for Wentworth while sophomore Brad Atkinson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made 21 stops in the setback for Johnson & Wales.

With the win Wentworth improves to 3-1-1 overall and 1-1 in ECAC play, while the Wildcats fall to 0-4-0 (0-2). Both teams are back in action on Saturday, with the Leopards traveling to Suffolk for a 3:25 p.m. face off (note new time) and Johnson & Wales hosting Becker at 4:45 p.m.
