MILTON, Mass. – Junior Mike Sullivan's (Newton, Mass.) goal with 57 seconds left in the second period tied the game at 1-all and neither Wentworth nor Curry could break the tie as the two teams settled for a point in the ECAC Northeast standings.
Wentworth stands at 13-8-3 overall and remains in first place in league play with a 9-2-2 (20 points) record. The Black & Gold have assured themselves of finishing no lower than second in the league standings and will earn a bye in the opening round of the ECAC Northeast Tournament. Curry sits at 9-10-4 overall and 5-3-4 in league play.
It took 36:54 minutes of play before a goal was scored. The Leopards were the first to get on the board with just 3:06 left in the second period when junior Andrew Yarber (Livonia, Mich.) took a slap shot right outside the slot that sailed past the glove of Curry senior Joe Dawson (Woodbury, Mich.). Yarber received passes from sophomore Sean McLaughlin (North Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Mike Cox (Marlborough, Mass.). The Colonels answered back to tie the game 2:05 minutes later as Sullivan netted his first goal of the season when he one-timed the puck past Wentworth's freshman Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.). Sullivan's tally was unassisted.
The first period saw both teams having just eight shots and only one penalty apiece. Both goaltenders played solid throughout the entire game and into overtime. The Leopards led in shots in the second 15-10. The Colonels held a slight advantage in the third at 13-8. Wentworth dominated the five minutes of OT outshooting Curry 6-0, however could not get a shot past Dawson.
Dawson made 36 saves in net in 65:00 minutes while Miller came up with 30 stops for Wentworth. The Leopards, who are 3-0-2 in their last five games, close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Salve Regina at 1:00. Curry is also in action on Saturday, traveling to Johnson & Wales.
