BOSTON, Mass. – Backed by another balanced attack, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team (4-1) got back in the win column Saturday morning, sweeping non-conference rival Emmanuel (1-1) in dominant fashion.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Thanks to two kills from freshman Emma Sanders (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), Wentworth got off to a 4-2 advantage in the first set before two service aces from the freshman extended the lead to 6-2. Two kills from freshman Kate McLane (Columbus, Ohio) helped extend the lead to 9-4 before kills from McLane, sophomore Riley Schoonmaker (Montgomery, N.Y.), and junior Ema Thompson (Lewiston, Idaho) pushed the lead to 13-8. Two kills from graduate student Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.) stretched the Leopards' advantage to 19-11. Kills from McLane and Sanders helped Wentworth clinch a 25-16 set win.
  • The Saints challenged the Leopards at the start of the second set, trading points with the inner-city rival before taking a 9-7 advantage. Kills by Waggoner and McLane helped the Leopards knot the score at nine apiece before a string of three straight service aces from McLane helped the Leopards separate themselves in a 17-11. Emmanuel closed the gap, cutting the deficit to 20-15, before a kill from Thompson and three from McLane guided Wentworth to a 25-20 second set win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • Wentworth streaked at the beginning of the third set, thanks to kills from Waggoner and Thompson, stretching the lead to a commanding 11-1 score. Two kills from McLane and another from Thompson continued the lead to 16-4 before two kills from Sanders pushed the advantage to 21-9. Kills from Thompson and Sanders gave the Leopards a breezy 25-11 third set and a 3-0 match win.

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Leopards have won four straight matchups with the Saints.
