BOSTON, Mass. – On Friday night, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team (12-5) pushed their win streak to four with a non-conference sweep over Salve Regina (10-8), with the Leopards combining for a .341 hitting percentage and nine total service aces as a group.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After the Seahawks set out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, two kills by freshman Emma Sanders (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and another by junior Ema Thompson (Lewiston, Idaho) helped Wentworth knot the score at four-all. Two kills from Thompson and another from Sanders later gave the hosts a 7-5 lead before two kills by freshman Kate McLane (Columbus, Ohio) continued the lead to 13-9. Two service aces by McLane pushed the Leopards' advantage to 19-12 before kills by Thompson and Sanders continued the lead to 22-16. The Seahawks came back, cutting the deficit to just one at 23-22, but a kill from McLane and the clincher from graduate student Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.) gave the hosts a 25-23 set win.
  • Wentworth rattled off six of the first seven points in the second set, with three on kills from Sanders, Thompson, and McLane, respectively, marking a 6-1 score. Back-to-back kills from Thompson carried the lead to 12-5 before a kill by McLane, sandwiched by two errors, continued the lead to 16-6. Two kills from McLane started a 5-0 run for the Leopards, marking a 21-10 advantage, before two kills apiece for McLane and Sanders gave Wentworth a 25-11 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • A trio of service aces for the Leopards gave the team a commanding 7-1 lead to begin the third set before a slew of errors for the Seahawks gave the hosts a 13-2 lead. Three straight kills by McLane and another by Waggoner pushed Wentworth's lead to 20-5 before two more kills by Waggoner, combined with a handful of errors, earned the Black & Gold a 25-7 set win and a 3-0 match win.
