BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team (18-5, 6-0 CCC) pushed their win streak to ten Thursday night with a sweep over the Golden Bears of Western New England (9-10, 3-2 CCC), continuing their dominance across the conference slate.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth scored ten of the first eleven points in the first set, thanks to kills by junior Ema Thompson (Lewiston, Idaho), graduate student Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.), freshman Emma Sanders (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), and freshman Kate McLane (Columbus, Ohio). Two kills by sophomore Riley Schoonmaker (Montgomery, N.Y.) continued the lead to 13-3 before a march back by the Golden Bears eventually narrowed the score to 15-14. Three kills by Thompson gave the Leopards separation in a 25-18 set win.
  • The Leopards set out to a 4-0 lead in the second set before continuing the advantage to 7-2 on kills by McLane, Sanders, and Thompson. Wentworth continued their lead to 13-6 before kills by McLane and Sanders brought the lead to 16-13. Kills from Waggoner and Thompson helped the Leopards grab a 25-19 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • After a 5-0 run for the Golden Bears started the third set, Wentworth tied the score at six-all thanks to three kills by Thompson. A kill by Sanders and Thompson brought the lead to 10-7 for the Leopards before a slew of errors continued the lead to 14-8. A kill by McLane helped bring the lead to 18-12 before WNE closed the gap in a 19-17 deficit. Two kills by Sanders and a handful of Golden Bears errors gave Wentworth the deciding 25-21 set win.
