Win Streak Hits Eleven for Women's Volleyball in Win over Hartford

BOSTON, Mass. – Backed by a spread attack, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team (19-5) swept the Hartford Hawks (4-9) Saturday morning, bringing their win streak to eleven.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The two teams traded scores to start the match, with the Leopards knotting the score at two-all on two kills by freshman Emma Sanders (Mount Pleasant, S.C.). A kill by Savannah Morford (Darien, Ill.) gave the Leopards a 7-5 lead before the two teams matched the score at 13-all. The Leopards rattled off six straight points to take a 19-13 lead before kills by Sanders, Morford, and sophomore Riley Schoonmaker (Montgomery, N.Y.) helped the Leopards grab a 25-17 set win.
  • Two service aces by freshman Kayla DeCastro (Miami, Fla.) gave the Leopards a 4-3 edge in the second set before kills by Schoonmaker and junior Helen Barthe (Blythewood, S.C.) raised the lead to 8-5. Ahead 9-8, Wentworth scored the next nine points, with four coming on two kills apiece by Barthe and graduate student Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.), marking an 18-8 score. Kills by Waggoner, Barthe, and senior Shelby Seage (Cocoa, Fla.) gave Wentworth a 25-12 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • Errors gave the Leopards a 3-0 advantage in the third set before a service ace and kill by Barthe continued the lead to 6-2. Hartford knotted the score at six-all before two service aces by Morford eventually gave the Leopards a 14-9 lead. Two kills by senior Abby Warren (Gilmanton, N.H.) continued the lead to 17-11 before four kills by Morford paced the Leopards to a 25-18 set win and a 3-0 match win.
