Men's Lacrosse's Offense Lights up Sage

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) posted eight points as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (2-1) torched offensively for the second game in a row, putting up 17 goals against the Sage Gators (0-4) in a 17-9 triumph Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards scored three goals in a span of 1:02 towards the start of the first frame, with goals coming from freshman Brendan Kroll (Wakefield, R.I.), senior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.), and senior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.), before a goal by Sage from sophomore Nate Kettle (Killbuck, N.Y.) cut the skid at 3-1. The Black & Gold notched two more goals within a 1:07 span to extend their lead to 5-1 before Kettle capped a two-goal run for the Gators to mark a 5-3 score after the first quarter.
  • The hosts rattled off six straight goals across a 7:21 span, including two kills apiece for Longo and junior Jared Hiller (North Andover, Mass.), raising the score to 11-3. Kette started a 2-2 swap of goals between the two teams, with Kroll capping the scoring and marking a 13-5 score at the halfway mark.
  • Sage scored two goals in the third quarter, the first being on the man advantage, as Kettle picked up a goal and an assist with the Gators cutting their deficit to 13-7.
  • Longo capped a 2-0 run across 1:09 for the Leopards towards the start of the final frame, raising the score to 15-7, before Kettle and Charron swapped scores six seconds apart from one another to bring the score to 16-8. The two teams swapped goals once again to end the game in a 17-9 final.
  • Longo led the offensive outburst for the Leopards, tallying four goals and four assists. At the X, Charron went an efficient 17-for-21 with nine ground balls. In goal, junior Tom Gardner (West Windsor, N.J.) picked up his second straight win, making 14 stops on 23 shots.
