BABSON PARK, Fla. – Senior Chase Jackson (Lutz, Calif.) of the NAIA's No. 2-ranked Webber International men's lacrosse team (5-0) totaled six points, including two goals and the eventual game-winner with 58 seconds left, as the Warriors edged the Wentworth Institute of Technology (3-2) by a 12-11 score Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The two teams felt each other out for most of the first quarter before the Warriors broke the scoreless tie with 2:39 left in the frame and added two goals in a span of 46 seconds by sophomore Jeremiah Loo (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) to mark a 3-0 score. With 10 seconds left in the frame, sophomore Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) scored to cut the deficit to 3-1.
  • Jackson pushed the Warriors' lead to 4-1 1:57 into the second quarter before goals by junior Jared Hiller (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Colin Ocampo (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) cut the deficit to 4-3 by the 9:54 mark.
  • Back-to-back goals by senior Houston Finlayson (Swift Current, Saskatchewan) pushed Webber's advantage to 6-3 by the 5:04 mark before a Leopard tally with 1:37 left in the half marked a 6-4 score.
  • Loo opened the scoring in the third quarter at the 9:09 mark, raising the score to 7-4, before the two teams traded scores in the final 4:23 of action to mark an 8-5 score after the three quarters of play.
  • The hosts added to their lead with a goal 18 seconds into the fourth quarter before the Leopards rattled off three straight, including two by freshman Gabe Cobham (Westbury, N.Y.), to dwindle the deficit to 9-8 with 11:47 left. Jackson and Finlayson scored to cushion Webber's lead at 11-8 with 7:07 left.
  • Wentworth scored three straight in a span of 2:12 to knot the score at 11-all with 2:23 left to go, with goals coming from Cobham, Ocampo, and senior Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.). Jackson scored with 58 seconds left to give the hosts a 12-11 edge, but the Leopards battled to the very end, nicking three shots towards the goal with one being stopped by senior Ryan Prylinski (La Grange, Ill.) in goal.
  • At the X, senior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the charge, going 18-for-26 with ten ground balls. Prylinski stopped five of the 11 shots he faced in the bulk of the game for the Warriors while junior Tom Gardner (West Windsor, N.J.) made seven saves in the Leopards' setback.
