Men's Lacrosse Thumps Clark to Cap Florida Swing

CLEARWATER, Fla. – A fast start by the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (4-2), featuring a 9-3 advantage at the halfway mark, led the Leopards to a bounce-back 17-6 triumph over Clark (2-4) on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards sprinted out to a 3-0 lead across the opening 10:55, with two goals off the stick of freshman Brendan Kroll (Wakefield, R.I.). The two teams swapped scores across the final 2:56 of play, with freshman Gabe Cobham (Westbury, N.Y.) padding the lead at 4-1.
  • The two teams traded scores at the 11:57 and 11:50 marks of the second frame, raising the score to 5-2, before sophomore Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) scored twice and Cobham added another to mark an 8-2 score. Senior Patrick Liddy (Sutton, Mass.) tallied for the Cougars to cut their deficit to 8-3 before another goal by Longo with 1:29 to go gave Wentworth a 9-3 lead at the halfway mark.
  • Sophomore Colin Ocampo (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) tallied at the 9:30 mark of the third quarter to push the lead to 11-3 before Liddy and Ocampo swapped scores to mark a 11-4 score. The Leopards tallied once more, a goal by senior Logan Maklan (Boca Raton, Fla.), in the frame to extend their lead to 12-4.
  • The Black & Gold scored twice within six seconds early on in the fourth quarter, marking a 14-4 score, before Clark tallied with the man-advantage. The Leopards ended the game outscoring the Cougars 3-1 to hold on for the win, 17-6.
  • Three goalies split time for Clark while junior Tom Gardner (West Windsor, N.J.) earned the win for Wentworth, making 11 saves. Senior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the efforts at the X, going 14-for-25 with seven ground balls.
