BOSTON, Mass. – A late 3-0 run in the fourth quarter separated the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team (5-2) from a 9-9 draw with the Emmanuel Saints (0-6) as the Black & Gold prevailed with a 12-10 win, good for their fifth in their last six games, in non-conference action Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Saints got off to a 2-0 lead across the opening 4:40 thanks to two tallies from sophomore Cole Cloney (Medfield, Mass.) before a goal with a man-up by sophomore Colin Ocampo (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) cut the Leopards' deficit to one at the 5:51 mark. The Black & Gold took a 3-2 advantage before the end of the opening frame as sophomore Tyler Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) and senior Connor Charron (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored just six seconds apart.
  • After Emmanuel knotted the score at three-all 20 seconds into the second quarter, the Leopards rattled off three straight goals in a span of 3:43, taking a 6-3 lead off goals by Ocampo, senior Drew Bouley (Gloucester, Mass.), and freshman Brendan Kroll (Wakefield, R.I.). Emmanuel scored twice by the 7:33 mark to cut the deficit to 6-5 before the Leopards regained their three-goal cushion on two goals tailing off by the 4:09 mark, holding their 8-5 lead into the break.
  • Two goals by senior Thomas Quigley (Marblehead, Mass.) and another by Cloney brought the Saints back in it and tied the score at eight aside by the 6:13 mark of the third frame. A goal by Ocampo with the man advantage at the 2:59 mark gave Wentworth a 9-8 edge before a goal for Emmanuel with 59 ticks left on the clock tied the score again at 9-9 heading into the final quarter.
  • The Black & Gold broke the tie with 4:35 left in the fourth quarter on a tally by junior Kobi Buffa (Craryville, N.Y.) before a goal by Charron six seconds later gave Wentworth an 11-9 advantage. Ocampo stretched the lead to 12-10 with 3:32 left before an Emmanuel tally by freshman Cooper Mehlhorn (Portland, Maine) cut their deficit to 12-10 with just under two minutes left.
  • Wentworth fended off the late comeback bid for the Saints as junior Tom Gardner (West Windsor, N.J.) stood tall in goal, making 13 saves on 23 shots. Charron was extremely efficient at the X, going 21-for-25 with 15 ground balls.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Winners of six straight, the Leopards lead the all-time series, 6-2.
