BOSTON, Mass. – In his second-straight game, junior Tyler Stewart (East Taunton, Mass.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team (11-10, 6-6 CCC) dropped a career-high mark in points, with 36 today, as the Leopards took down conference rival Suffolk (11-9, 7-6 CCC) by a 78-61 score Saturday afternoon.

The win pushes the Black & Gold's win streak to four as they've won six of their last eight contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After the two teams swapped scores to open the first half, behind 3-2, junior Jack Connell (Walpole, Mass.) drained a three to give Wentworth a 5-3 lead. After a make by junior Tyler Stewart (East Taunton, Mass.) extended the lead to 7-3, a three by graduate student Danny Yardemian (Belmont, Mass.) cut Suffolk's deficit to 7-6. The two teams traded scores, working to a 13-11 lead for the Rams, before a Stewart layup tied the game at 13-all.
  • Suffolk responded with a 6-1 run, including two three pointers, to take a 19-14 lead before Wentworth rattled off nine straight points, including six by Stewart, to regain the lead at 23-19. Four points by Yardemian knotted the score at 23 aside before a dunk by senior Sam Goy (Derry, N.H.) helped Wentworth grab five straight, marking a 28-23 score.
  • A layup by junior Keenan Robertson (Rochester, N.Y.) ticked off eight straight points for Suffolk, giving the visitors a 31-28 edge with 2:36 to go in the half. Seven straight points by Goy gave the Leopards a 35-31 lead at the break. After a Robertson layup cut Suffolk's deficit to two, Wentworth rattled off 10 straight, including seven from Stewart, to hold a 45-33 lead.
  • Robertson and Stewart traded baskets to mark a 49-37 score before the Leopards went on a 10-5 run to extend their lead to 59-42. Suffolk rattled off ten straight of their own, including multiple makes by Robertson and a three by freshman Nick Verdile (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) to mark a 59-52 deficit. Two three-pointers by Connell later pushed the lead to 69-56 before another three by Verdile marked a ten-point margin.
  • Wentworth ended the game on a 9-5 run, with most of their points coming on free throw makes, marking a 78-61 win. Stewart led all scorers with his career-high 36 points on 13-for-19 shooting while chipping in with 11 boards. Goy added 14 while Connell added 13.
