Women's Soccer Suffers First Setback

Women's Soccer Suffers First Setback

Worcester, Mass. – Anchored by a stingy defense that held visiting Wentworth to just three shots, Clark scored a goal in each half and posted its second consecutive victory with a 2-0 win over the Leopards on Wednesday evening in non-league women's soccer action.

The game, which began in a downpour and was played on the University's turf field rather than the water-logged soccer facility, saw the Cougars outshoot Wentworth 20-3 for the contest.

Clark jumped out quickly, scoring in the ninth minute when Hana Chamoun (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) found Afrai Danai (Amherst, Mass.) for her first career goal.

Playing with the lead, the Cougar backline consisting of Chamoun, Sara Conway (Lynn, Mass.), Julia Hubbell (Cambridge, Mass.) and Erin Peete (Clinton, Mass.), thwarted any Wentworth penetration into the offensive zone.

Clark put the contest away in the 60th minute, when Janelle Pasternack (North Brookfield, Mass.) found a streaking Hanna Wilson (Irvington, N.Y.), who sent a high arcing ball that Wentworth netminder Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) deflected but snuck inside the upper left corner.

Gardner was solid in net for Wentworth, turning back 10 shots, while making several other sound defensive plays.

For Clark, senior Audrey Eisemann (Worcester, Mass.) needed to make just one save to record her first career shutout.

Wentworth is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Salve Regina, while the Cougars make the short trip across town to face Worcester State on Saturday as well.
