BEVERLY, Mass. – Seniors Katy Hasek (Burlington, Mass.) and Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) combined for four goals and two assists as the Endicott Gulls defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology 6-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action Wednesday night. The Gulls improved to 10-5 (6-2 CCC) while the Leopards of Wentworth fall to 3-14 (0-8 CCC) in a game that was called at the 70:05 mark due to heavy rains.
Pepin scored a hat-trick in the first half, giving the Gulls a 3-0 lead at the break. The co-captain, who now has fourteen goals on the season, opened the scoring in the 21st minute when she took a high ball from defender Lauren Todd (Newsfields, N.H.) in behind the Leopard defense. She doubled Endicott's advantage with the prettiest goal of the night, as she played the ball off of the far post and into the net on a pass from junior Chelsea Garlock (Meriden, Conn.) Pepin finished her scoring six minutes from half when she beat the defender to a ball played to her by freshman Hannah Schneidenbach (Charlestown, R.I.)
After Endicott took a 5-0 lead in the second half on two goals by Nicole Fournier (Milford, Mass.), the Gulls were awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box. Hasek, playing in her first game of the year, stepped up and wrong-footed the keeper, finishing solidly to cap the scoring at six goals.
Hasek and Pepin each had individual assists on Fournier's two tallies, the seventh and eighth of the year for the sophomore forward.
Junior goalie Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) made 10 stops for the Leopards while facing 16 shots on goal from the hosts. Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) picked up her third shutout and fourth victory in five games of action.
On a soaking wet turf where the ball often stopped mid-roll, Endicott fired 24 shots, while the Leopards managed just three attempts, none of them on goal. The visitors' best chances came fifteen minutes into the game when Lucy Brown (Plainville, Conn.) put a shot wide and Heather Saroch (Arnold, Md.) kicked one over the bar just after.
The Gulls finish off their home schedule with a 7-1 record at Endicott Stadium. They will play two more games, with their final conference game coming on Saturday at 2:30 pm at University of New England. Wentworth will finish their season on Saturday at 1:30 pm at Western New England.
