SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – All 10 institutions from the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2011 All-CCC Women's Soccer Team, which was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, five major individual award winners and a team sportsmanship award winner were also selected. Salve Regina University junior Kaitlyn Birrell was named CCC Offensive Player of the Year, Endicott College senior Caitlin Peters was honored as CCC Defensive Player of the Year, Roger Williams freshman Kristin Tetreault was selected as CCC Rookie of the Year, Endicott College senior Colleen Pepin was named CCC Senior Scholar Athlete, University of New England coach Heather Davis was named CCC Coach of the Year, and Gordon College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award. Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC women's soccer coaches.
Two members of the Wentworth women's soccer team earned all-conference accolades as senior defender Lucy Brown (Plainville, Conn.) and junior keeper Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) were each named Second Team All-CCC.
Brown, who earned Honorable Mention All-CCC honors as a freshman, capped off a stellar career by playing in all 18 games and assisting on a pair of goals this season. On the defensive side she was a stalwart and helped hold the opposition to one of fewer goals in five games.
Over her career Brown started 61 of the 69 games in which she appeared, tallying 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points. As a freshman she had a career-high six goals to go along with 14 points, while as a junior, she set career highs with five assists and 15 points.
Gardner, who was named Honorable Mention All-CCC a season ago, started all 18 of Wentworth games and played in 1530:43 of a possible 1624:54 this season. Her 158 saves were the second-most in a season, while her 8.78 saves per game were the highest single-season average in program history. She had a career-high 19 stops in a 3-1 loss at Salve Regina on Sept. 10. As of the latest NCAA Division III rankings she is 16th in total saves and 24th in goalie minutes played.
For her career Gardner has started 43 of the 47 games in which she has played with a program best 345 saves (7.34 saves per game) to go along with a 2.05 goals against average, a .795 save percentage, and six shutouts.
Wentworth finished the 2011 season with a 4-14 record.
