SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wentworth women's soccer team used a strong start to post a 3-1 victory over Western New England for their first win in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this season on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon at Suprenant Field.

Wentworth closes out their season at 4-14 (1-8 CCC); while Western New England falls to 4-12-2 (2-6-1 CCC). Six of the Leopards' 14 losses were by a single goal, including dropping a pair of decisions in overtime.

The Leopards grabbed an early lead on a blast from outside the box by freshman forward Maddy Lanoue (Pittsfield, MA) in the 13th minute.

They struck again just three minutes later on a goal from freshman midfielder Olivia Moore (Salem, CT) as she took advantage of WNE sophomore goalie Victoria Trezise (Islip, NY) coming off her line.

The Golden Bears were awarded a penalty kick in the 28th minute as senior forward Sara McMurray (Enfield, CT) hit a low driving shot that was turned away by junior goalkeeper Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, MA).

McMurray had another chance from the penalty spot in the second half, but put the attempt just over the bar.
Wentworth grabbed an insurance goal from freshman midfielder Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, CT) at 49:55 to stretch the lead to 3-0.

The Golden Bears continued to apply pressure throughout, holding a 22-19 edge in shots.

WNE got on the board at 69:51 as senior forward Krista Gangloff (Newington, CT) converted a cross from classmate Morgan Vogt (Henniker, NH).

Gardner made several key stops down the stretch, compiling six saves to earn the win in goal. Trezise made eight stops on the afternoon.

The Golden Bears will close out the regular season by traveling to city-rival Springfield on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at 7:00 p.m.
