Eastern Nazarene Downs Women's Soccer, 5-2

QUINCY, Mass. – Freshman Ana Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.) tallied a pair of goals and added an assist to help the Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team to a 5-2 win over Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The visiting Leopards took a 1-0 lead when freshman Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) scored on a feed from senior Lucy Brown (Plainville, Conn.). The lead wouldn't last long, however, as the Lions knotted the game at 1-all when freshman Juliana Speno converted a penalty kick for her 10th marker of the year. The hosts took the lead for good when senior Jackie Greenwood (Halifax, Mass.) fed classmate Jillian Thornton (Guilderland, N.Y.) in the 26th minute of play and extended their lead to 3-1 when freshman Samantha Williams (Forest Hill, Md.) put home the rebound of a saved shot by Santos.

In the 60th minute Eastern Nazarene took a 4-1 lead when Williams fed Santos. Wentworth cut the lead to 4-2 in the 61st minute when Moore scored her second of the game – and fifth in the last two games – off a feed from junior Carli Cabana (Sandwich, Mass.). With less than seven minutes remaining Santos tallied her second of the game to round out the scoring.

Freshman Rachel Henry (Lowell, Mass.) made four saves in the win for Eastern Nazarene. Wentworth junior Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) made three saves in 26:07 and became the program's all-time save leader with 305, surpassing Rhiannon Lee's 304 set in the 1998 and 1999 seasons.. Freshman Nicole Leahey (Warwick, R.I.) made three saves in 63:53 of action. The Lions held a 15-12 shot advantage.

With the win Eastern Nazarene runs its unbeaten streak to six (4-0-2) and improves to 8-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league play. The Lions are at Endicott on Tuesday. Wentworth falls to 3-10-0 (0-5-0) and is at Framingham State on Monday.
