Women's Soccer Holds on For 4-3 Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman forward Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) factored in all four of her team's goals, recording a hat trick and an assist to help the Wentworth women's soccer team snap a nine-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

The host Leopards, who tied a season high for goals in a game, got on the board early when Moore controlled a loose ball in the box and fed junior defender Danielle Weiler (Becket, Mass.). Becket fired a shot into the left side of an open net. At the 10:08 mark sophomore forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, Mass.) took a feed from junior forward Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, Mass.) and rifled a shot inside the near post.

Moore scored the Leopards' next three goals, the first coming at 12:06 when she was set up by freshman forward Tori Armishaw (Scarborough, Maine). At 55:26 classmate Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, Conn.) sent a pass that took a high bounce off the turf to Moore, who scored from 10 yards out. With 14:32 remaining, freshman Robyn Pacini (Stoneham, Mass.) sent a pass to Moore, who fired a shot from the right side. The shot ricocheted off the left post across the goal mouth, hit the right post and crossed the line.

The Corsairs began their comeback at 83:19 when Van Ness fed Jonasson along the left side to make it a 4-2 game. Just over two minutes later Van Ness, who finished with a goal and two assists, rifled a shot to the high left side, cutting the lead to 4-3. Wentworth would hold off a late UMass Dartmouth charge for the win.

Junior Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) made nine saves in 84:58 of work for the Leopards, allowing one goal. Freshman Nicole Leahey (Warwick, R.I.) allowed a pair of goals in 5:02. Junior Stephanie Borges (Somerset, Mass.) made five stops for the Corsairs who held a 24-19 shot advantage.

With the win the Leopards improve to 3-9-0 and are at Eastern Nazarene on Saturday. UMass Dartmouth sees its three-game unbeaten streak come to a halt, falling to 7-5-1. The Corsairs are at UMass Boston on Saturday.
