Women's Soccer Picks up Season-Opening Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Madelyn Seder's (Marlborough, Mass.) goal with 9:03 remaining snapped a 1-all tie and lifted the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Lesley in the season opener for both teams.

The win for the Leopards was their first season-opening triumph since the 2016 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A defensively played opening to the game saw Lesley have an early shot attempt, which sailed wide. In the 11th minute, the Lynx broke through when sophomore Abby Kalou (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) broke in along the left side and sent a pass across the top of the box to junior Haile Carrillo-Hayes (Chatsworth, Calif.), who put home a shot inside the right post.
  • In the 13th minute, Wentworth had a corner kick attempt but were unsuccessful in generating a scoring chance. However, with 11:51 left in the frame, the Leopards got the equalizer. Graduate student Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass.) sent a ball towards the net where freshman Jordan Dahan (Kennesaw, Ga.) put a shot on net. The ball was initially saved by Lynx keeper Ashley Colhoun (Chapel, Hill, N.C.), but came free and found the back of the net.
  • Dahan nearly gave the Leopard a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute when she had a header in front that sailed just high. In the 74th minute, senior Madison Wolf (Falmouth, Maine) sent a header towards the net, which was stopped by sophomore Lauren Lacy (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
  • Wentworth continued to pressure, and, in the 81st minute, broke the stalemate. Wolf took a shot that hit the post where the rebound came out to sophomore Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.). Montville's bid also hit the post but Seder was able to collect the carom and put her bid home.
  • Junior Adrianna Arona (Westfield, Mass.) made three saves for the Black & Gold, who had a 9-7 shot advantage and a 2-0 edge on corner kicks.
