HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth had the first chance of the contest when junior Mckenzie Collins (Seymour, Conn.) had a shot attempt that sailed wide. However, nearly four minutes later, Mount Holyoke almost got the first goal of the game when a shot attempt rang off the crossbar.
  • At the 9:41 mark of the first half, Bruggeman broke free and scored her first of the season to break the early stalemate. A foul in the box at the 14:09 mark led to a penalty kick where Bruggeman stepped to the spot and gave the Black & Gold a 2-0 lead.
  • With 16:03 left in the half, the Lyons cut the lead in half on a goal from Hannah Keochakian. However, senior Adrianna Valenti (Bolton, Mass.) gave the Leopards a two-goal advantage again when she scored her first of the season at the 35:53 mark.
  • Mount Holyoke put shots on net in the 49th, 58th, and 68th minutes before pulling back within one on Keochakian's second of the game, coming at 70:59. Keochakian also had a bid for the game-tying goal stopped by junior Adrianna Arona (Westfield, Mass.) in the 78th minute. That shot was the last Lyons attempt of the contest, as Wentworth carried play over the final minutes to pick up the win.
  • Arona made six saves on the afternoon. Wentworth had a commanding 22-10 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

THE SERIES:

  • Today was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
