Women's Soccer Battles Salve Regina in League Opener

NEWPORT, R.I. – Sophomore Shae Minicucci (Midland Park, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals to lift the Salve Regina University women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Salve Regina wasted little time getting on the board when Minicucci netted her first of the contest at the 1:55 mark.
  • Wentworth battled back to tie the game when sophomore Maria Selman (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) scored at 10:17. However, Minicucci gave the hosts the lead for good when she scored at 14:45.
  • Freshman Marisa Perachi (Washington Depot, Conn.) tacked on an insurance goal with 14:06 left in the first half to make it 3-1.
  • The Seahawks outshot the Leopards, 19-14, which included a 12-7 advantage in the first half. Wentworth had the edge in corner kicks, 5-3.

THE SERIES:

  • Today was the 25th all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth holds a 12-11-2 series advantage.
