SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Isabella Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) recorded a pair of goals as the Western New England University women's soccer team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-1, in the regular-season finale for both squads.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Western New England wasted little time trying to get on the board as junior Isabella Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) took two shots, both of which were saved by sophomore Juliana Heaton (Swansea, Mass.). The Golden Bears struck at the 7:41 mark when a cross in front was deflected out by Heaton, however, Montalvo got possession and put the shot home.
• Exactly two minutes later, Wentworth evened the score at 1-1 when freshman Meghan Barilone (Bennington, Vt.) sent a ball towards the box where graduate student Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass.) headed the ball inside the right post.
• The Golden Bears kept applying pressure, however, Heaton made five saves over the remainder of the of the first half, keeping the game tied at 1-all. Heaton made a save early in the second half before junior Mckenzie Collins (Seymour, Conn.) and sophomore Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) each had shot attempts for the Black & Gold.
• Western New England took the lead for good at the 71:12 mark when sophomore Lindsey Reidy (Chicopee, Mass.) scored on an assist from freshman Gabby Sansone (Guilford, Conn.). A foul in the box at 75:26 gave the Golden Bears a penalty kick where Montalvo stepped to the line and buried the attempt.
• Heaton made a career-high 13 saves as Western New England had a 31-6 shot advantage.

THE SERIES:

• Today 17th all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth New England leads 9-7-1. The Golden Bears have won the last two meetings and are 4-0-1 in the last five.

• As the number eight seed, Wentworth will head back to Springfield on Saturday to take on top-seeded Western New England.
